Money we Raised for Oxjam! posted on 17/10/2011
Ladies and gentlemen,
Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque is proud to announce that we raised a whopping £583.76 for Oxjam at our show last night!
This has exceeded our target amount and although 100% of raffle sales and 100% of ticket sales have been donated to Oxjam from this event, it is mainly thanks to our performers, helpers, the businesses who donated raffle prizes and to YOU, our audience, and your kind cash donations that we were able to raise this amount of money for Oxjam.
We would like to take a moment to give an extra special thank you to everyone who donated prizes to our raffle, especially Mad Hatters who made us a special Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque cake. Raffle sales were through the roof!
To put into perspective what we have raised, your £6 admission fee can buy school dinners for 100 children, £100 of what we have raised can buy essential medicines for a whole village, £429 can buy a library and £500 can pay for the care of 10 orphans.
And to think - we raised all of this money simply by just having a good time!

A Review and Interview with Deadly Nightshade by Charlotte Grainger posted on 10/03/2011
Here is a review of Sunday night's show 'Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque Goes to the Movies' written by Charlotte Grainger from the University of Sheffield.
"A tall man in a striped shirt, a blue tie and a bowler hat walks on stage. He holds a plastic toy gun. As he does so and voice over begins to play. Fake smoke sweeps across the stage. He looks up at the audience and begins to mime to the booming voice.

“This girl has taken the whole state for every diamond they got. I gotta give it to her though – she's good at what she does - Why has she never done me?”
The audience roar with laughter. The man puts down the toy gun and lifts his hands to his already bowed head.
“Sitting here waiting for the devil. And she’s on her way”
The music kicks in. A guitar rhythm. So loud that the sound of the audience’s cheers is almost drowned out completely. The man exists.
She walks on. Her curly black hair bounces as she waltzes up to the stage holding a slightly bigger toy gun. The symbolism is perfect. She is more man than him. She kisses it.
Once on the stage she drops her black fur coat to the floor. The audience scream as her purple corset and French knickers are revealed. Slowly she sheds her long black gloves. She reaches into her corset and produces a pearl necklace. Swings it – once, twice, three times. Throws it into the audience.

Next goes the corset. She makes sure she takes her time untying it. It looks intricate and she basks in the sound of the audience wooing her on. Once untied, she drops it to the floor. To reveal a jewelled bra beneath it. The audience once again goes wild and she beams. This is her moment and she is Deadly Nightshade.
“It’s not about the titillation of men. It is more for the women themselves really. I see it more as an art form” says Deadly Nightshade, real name Rachel Lightfoot.
At just 25 Rachel, from Rotherham, started the Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque Show as an outlet for her and her friends who were interested in the scene.
“People used to say to me that my style was similar to Dita Von Teese's and ask if I’d ever been to a burlesque show. I thought why not?”
Three years later and her own show is still going strong. The success has meant that Rachel is able to ask some of the bigger names in burlesque to guest star at her nights which she organises quarterly.
Warren Peace enters the stage. He is a middle aged man with dark slicked back hair. He wears a suit jacket, shirt and tie. He also wears fishnet stockings and hot pants. He stops. Strikes a pose for the audience. They cheer obediently. And begins singing “I can make you a man” from The Rocky Horror Show.
“I’ve been thinking about the next theme. I might do gorelesque [horror style burlesque].” says Rachel and then smiles. The idea to give each show a different theme came about when she was trying to set her show apart from similar acts.
“The girls will tell me they have an idea for a dance and it usually goes from there. I think of what theme I can put it into and that’s it.”

Cleavage is everywhere. Not one of the girls, the audience included, has attempted to cover themselves. It is a pity there aren’t more men here. They don’t know what they’re missing. The men that are here dress in suits and most of them are accompanying a barely covered woman.
“Most people expect it to be an all men crowd but actually it is mainly women. We recently performed for the Women’s Institute and by the end of it we had got them all up dancing.” says Rachel.
When the question of the show being anti-feminist comes up she answers completely un-phased. “I see it as in a different category to strip tease – obviously it is that – but it is more about the show in general than turning people on.”
And finally the killer question, just how naked would she be willing to get on stage? “Personally, I would only go as far as getting down to my underwear. Some girls feel comfortable in nipple tassels, but I don’t.” Sorry guys".

Our review in 'Toast' magazine September 2010. posted on 26/10/2010
"September became the month for romance as the Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque team brought a loved up cabaret show to West Street Live.

Throughout the evening we were treated to saucy burlesque routines from residents Deadly Nightshade, Scarlet Noir, Depravity Jane and Knickerbockerglory.
Pansy Cheung performed a hypnotic tribal belly dance and also aiding blood flow for the first time on the Secret's stage was Susie Von Garter, Sian De Leir and Vivica Devine. It was safe to say they left the audience panting like the dogs they were. Arf.
In between performances, our entertainers for the eveing were auctioned off for a few minutes alone in the Love Booth, champagne and chocolates included."
Deadly Nightshade in 'The Sheffield Star' posted on 22/10/2010
Deadly Nightshade is featured in 'The Sheffield Star' today to promote 'Alluring Delights' and their 'Halloween Thriller' which will take place on October 31st and will star Deadly Nightshade and Cherry Du Bois.

'Alluring Delights' is SotBB's sister company and the brainchild of the beautiful twins Cherry Du Bois and Scarlet Noir. It is the first time Cherry and Scarlet have taken on a burlesque venture, and it is a first for us all managing a stage show in a theatre. So please do come alonmg to The Library Theatre in Sheffield this Halloween and show us your support.
I would like to clarify that, although this article implies that I am responsible for the show, the credit should go to Scarlet Noir and Cherry Du Bois, as it was their brainchild.
I am simply just helping out and generally making sure the show runs smoothly! Please give credit to Scarlet and Cherry, for the show was their idea which they have developed into reality.
Tickets are now only £10 from www.alluringdelights.co.uk.

Our next show... posted on 02/07/2010
Hello darlings!
I thought I had better inform you of the current happenings in the SotBB camp...
We are all getting rather excited about preparing our next show for September 5th 2010...
After much deliberation I have decided to entitle the show 'Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque Falls in Love' which I think is very apt considering SotBB and myself are very much in love with all of our current performers, our current venue and our ever-increasing audience members!
During this show we will be exploring (in ever-so-silly ways) the light and dark sides of love! Prepare for pink, red, fluff, hearts, candy, flowers and cheesecake burlesque routines as we celebrate romance, beauty, sickly-sweet love, desire and happiness; but also ready yourselves for a little bit of the mad and macabre as we explore obsession, lust, envy, heartache and the bitter side of love!
And now for the most exciting part...This show will be taking inspiration from television programmes such as 'Blind Date' and will feature a LIVE AUCTION of some of our most gorgeous performers! Ooooh you lucky devils!
Keep watching this space, continue reading our Blog and our Facebook Page for further details!
Much love,
Deadly Nightshade.x
Where to Begin... posted on 09/06/2010
Hello ladies and gentleman
And thank you to all who attended Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque Goes to the Circus on Sunday night! It was truly an evening to remember!
Everyone who attended, performed or contributed in any way made it such a memorable event!
Allow me to give a big round of applause to Warren Peace who whipped us into shape all night as our naughty ringmaster with the best legs (and shoes)! As well as keeping our circus flowing, he also provided us with some great songs and a very hilarious hypnotism show!
Massive thanks to the wonderful Miss Depravity Jane who made the perfect victim for Warren's hypnotism, she also made the perfect cupcakes which were offered around all night...and of course...she opened our circus with the perfect burlesque routine! What would SotBB do without this striking red head?
Let us hear it for the beautiful and sexy Selina Furvelle...she always manages to raise the temperature and get a few pulses racing! Her tarot-reading-gypsy act had us enchanted from beginning to end.
Cheer loudly for our beautiful door girl Scarlet Noir who bravely stepped onto the stage for the very first time with her beautiful twin sister Cherry Du Bois to provide us with a very cute and funny juggling and jiggling routine! It was a wonderful last minute effort as the pair bravely stepped up to replace Peski De Ville who sadly couldn't make the show due to an ankle injury. The two twins then dazzled us later on when dancing to 'Big Spender' along with myself as a little treat for the WI!
Whoop and holla at our star attraction Lexi Sexx who intrigued and enchanted us with her beautiful fan dance upon broken glass...sexy, stunning and striking! It was certainly a routine to remember! She also wowed our audience with her brilliant walk around act as the 'Grotesque Tattooed Lady'!
What can we say about the wonderful Mistress Mimi? What a fantastic performance she gave us, a silky smooth voice, dazzling costumes and amazing acting! She truly made our circus one to remember with her sexy ringmaster act and her melancholy clown act!
Wolf whistle at the hugely talented Duke O'Growl and Dante Powerhouse who sent hearts-a-fluttering and provided us with a gorgeous duet! The Duke also sang us some other amazing numbers throughout the night and ended our show perfectly with his rendition of 'Cry Me A River'! What a voice!
Big thanks to Momma O'Growl for reading our palms...she had everyone impressed and was busy all night with people queuing up to see her!
Thank you to our lovely juggler for walking around the crowd and showing of his skills!
And thank you to the great magician Mr BenZ for enchanting people with his magic all night!
Big thanks to Imogen's Imagination and Scarlet Von Harlot for donating some wonderful raffle prizes as well.
Our last thank you goes to Becci, our new door girl, who did a great job and looked beautiful all night!
